Fifteen RCMP employees being invested into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces


OTTAWA – Wednesday, June 8, 2011 -- Today, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, accompanied by William Elliott, Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Principal Commander of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces invested 43 individuals, including 15 employees of the RCMP, into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to policing.

“I would like to congratulate and thank these 15 dedicated employees of the RCMP and all of the honourees for their significant contributions to law enforcement and their exceptional service to Canadians” said Commissioner Elliott. “These extraordinary men and women have been evaluated by a panel of their peers as embodying the highest qualities recognized by the Order; qualities of service to Canada, to their communities, to their fellow citizens and to their police forces.”

“I commend the recipients of this prestigious award for their contributions to the policing profession,” said the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety. “All Canadians are tremendously proud of their hard work and their dedication to keeping all of our communities safe.”

There are three levels of membership within the Order: Commander of the Order of Merit (C.O.M.), Officer of the Order of Merit (O.O.M.) and Member of the Order of Merit (M.O.M.).

The following RCMP employees were invested today into the Order:

•Assistant Commissioner J.G.P. Michel Cabana, M.O.M.
•Deputy Commissioner Line Carbonneau, O.O.M.
•Staff Sergeant Jean-Marc Collin, M.O.M.
•Superintendent Robert Walter Keith Davis, M.O.M.
•Director General Robert C. Fahlman, O.O.M.
•Chaplain Robert A. Harper, M.O.M.
•Superintendent Timothy Head, M.O.M.
•Superintendent Jamie Raymond Jagoe, M.O.M.
•Assistant Commissioner Angus Alphonsus MacNeil, M.O.M.
•Deputy Commissioner Dale McGowan, M.O.M.
•Chief Superintendent Donald Blair McKnight, M.O.M.
•Staff Sergeant Terry McLachlan, M.O.M.
•Chief Superintendent Richard Thomas Noble, M.O.M.
•Superintendent Brian S. Simpson, O.O.M.
•Staff Sergeant Joseph Roch Stéphane St-Jacques, M.O.M.

The Order of Merit of the Police Forces is an honour based on the highest qualities of citizenship, service to Canada, to the police community and to humanity at large. The Order recognizes exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development.
